Yotes End Eagles Season in Quarterfinals

Box Score CALDWELL, Idaho – The #6 seed NU Eagles gave the #3 seeded College of Idaho a scare tonight as the Yotes pulled out an 80-73 victory to advance to the conference semifinals. The Eagles finish their season with an 18-13 overall record. The Yotes remain undefeated in the post season at home with a 15-0 record under Coach Reagan Rossi.

The Eagles came out strong in the first half taking a 13-11 lead 7 minutes into the first half after Corinne Burke drilled a jumper.  But, after C of I would tie the game twice, the Yotes would take the lead on a 3-pointer by Erica Martinez with 11:58 left in the half. C of I would hold onto a narrow lead until a 10-4 spurt capped off by a Dayna Drager trey would give the lady Yotes a 40-32 lead with 3:26 showing on the clock. Ashley Coila would cut the lead to 4, 43-39 with 1:10 to go, but a jumper by Chakala Carthen would give C of I a 45-39 lead at the half.

On Saturday night, the Eagles shooting went cold in the second half, but not tonight as they would come out of the locker room and reel off 8 straight points to take a 47-45 lead 3 minutes into the period. The College of Idaho would come back and take a 56-50 lead at the 13:47 mark, but Alivia Johnson's jumper would knot the score at 56-all with 10:15 showing on the clock. A lay-in by Chanara Greene and a jumper by Sanda Milovic would give NU a 62-58 lead (7:41). Back would come C of I with 5 straight points to re-take the lead for good as Erica Martinez would drive from the left wing to score making it 64-63 C of I. NU would continue to battle, but the Yotes would make 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch to pull out the narrow victory.

Sanda Milovic finished her career at Northwest (18-13) with a team high 20 points. Senior Alyssa Dario scored 13 points and Jordan Asher added 12 for the Eagles. Chanara Greene scored 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. NU shot 43% on the night, but were held to just 17% shooting from the 3-point line (4-23).

The College of Idaho (16-11) got a big effort from Erica Martinez who scored a game high 29 points and Chakala Carthen's big double-double of 19 points and a game high 24 rebounds. Elisha Hensey contributed 13 for the Yotes who shot 41% for the night. C of I held a 51-39 rebounding edge over the Eagles.


Said NU Coach Crawford, "We gave a great effort tonight. I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to coach these young women this season and they have truly established a foundation for future success."
