Geoducks Second Half Downs NU

Box Score KIRKLAND, Wash. – Evergreen overcame a 28-24 halftime deficit to defeat Northwest University, 61-52, in Cascade Conference play. LaNieci Weatherspoon led Evergreen with a game high 23 points.
 
Charmaine Bradford would hit a jumper in the lane to give Northwest U a 15-8 lead at the 9:40 mark of the first half. The Eagles would maintain a narrow lead over Evergreen for the remainder of the half. Kalee Fowler would hit a 3-pointer with 58 seconds on the clock to stretch NU's lead to 28-22, but Irene Moore would answer with her jumper with 35 seconds remaining to make it a 28-24 Northwest lead at the break.
 
Less than 3 minutes into the second half, Evergreen would hit four straight free throws, two by Uriah Thomas and a pair by LaNieci Weatherspoon which would tie the game at 30-30. NU would take a brief lead, but the Geoducks would come back to tie the score again at 37-all with 12:08 left in the game. After another tie and lead change, Evergreen would battle to take the lead for good after a Weatherspoon 3-pointer with 10:21 showing on the clock. A 22-6 Evergreen run capped off by six straight free throws would increase their lead to 16, 61-45, with 1:45 left in the game as they would close out the victory.
 
Freshman Charmaine Bradford led Northwest (11-12, 3-9 CCC) with 16 points and 5 assists, the only Eagle in double figures. Jordan Asher and Chanara Greene each added 7 points for the Eagle who managed to get to the free throw line only 6 times on the night.
 
Evergreen (12-7, 6-6 CCC) also got 18 points and 12 rebounds from Sadee Jones. The Geoducks out rebounded the Eagles 41-32 with 19 offensive rebounds. ESC went 87 percent from the free throw line hitting 27 of 31 shots from the charity stripe.

Northwest U will remain home and will host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon in Kirkland next Friday and Saturday.
