Eagles Unable to Maintain Lead in Draw Against Southern Oregon

Written by: Clayton Hashley

Ashland, Ore. – Northwest University (5-6-2, 4-1-2 CCC) settled for a 1-1 draw against the Southern Oregon Raiders (7-2-3, 5-1-2 CCC) on Friday evening.

The Eagles got the upper hand early in the game with a header from Katie Michkiosky off a corner kick from Jaclyn Metz. Rylee Rassier was another aggressive offensive force for the Eagles throughout, shooting five separate times in the game, with three on target.

The Raiders kept pushing into the final minutes, however, and forced extra time with an 89th minute equalizer from Misty Martinez.

In extra time, the Eagles found themselves up a woman after Southern Oregon's Trinity Rhoades received a second yellow card and was automatically ejected from the game. The Eagles pressed hard throughout both extra time periods as a result of their advantage, shooting five times. However, they were never able to find their golden goal and settled for the 1-1 draw.
Head coach Bryan Chud remarked, "Once again, we have played well, deserved to win, but came up just short. I'm again proud of the effort and pleased with our overall performance. We'll look to bring the same energy and effort against OIT tomorrow."
