Eagles Withstand Eastern Oregon’s Mountainous Effort to Force Tie

Written by: Clayton Hashley

Kirkland, Wash. – Northwest University men's soccer (2-4-3, 1-3-2 CCC) forced a draw against the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers (5-3-3, 3-2-2 CCC). Both teams scored two goals in regulation but were unable to find their extra time golden goal.

The Eagles found themselves trailing against the Mountaineers at two different points in the game but were resilient enough to tie the game both times. Northwest striker Jordan Travis scored both Eagle goals. The first came in the 51st minute off a free kick from Elijah Gordon, whose pass put Travis in great position to head the ball into the goal. Travis tied the game again in the 67th minute off assists from Trent Siedenburg and Alex Ballard.

Eastern Oregon provided a mountainous effort throughout the match, shooting 42 times, including 13 times in extra time. Connor Young was their goal scorer, scoring in the 44th and 53rd minutes.

The game was neck-and-neck throughout, and both teams played physically. Four yellow cards were handed out in the match. To make matters worse for the Eagles, Dennis Kozorezov came off the field with a red card just before regulation ended.

Northwest head coach Gary McIntosh commented, "I'm really proud of the way the guys played today.  We are battling through adversity, and the guys just never quit fighting.  To go down by a goal each time, only to fight our way back by scoring two great goals of our own, shows the determination this team has. Then to go down to ten men and have to finish the game plus overtime just shows you how tough this team really is.  We will enjoy the day off in between games and be ready for our game on Sunday."
