No. 22 Warriors Cause the Eagles to Retreat in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Quarterfinal

SALEM, Ore. - No. 22 Corban University (20-10, 15-5 CCC) defeats Northwest University (16-14, 12-8 CCC) in the opening round and sends the Eagles home in the single elimination tournament presented by U.S. Bank. Corban University finished the regular season strong by sweeping their last three regulation games, including No. 10 Southern Oregon. The Warriors continue their streak by defeating the Eagles 3-0. Corban advances in the tournament to the semifinals to play No. 10 Southern Oregon once again.

The Warriors' defense presented a standout performance by keeping the Eagles main hitters, Keann White and Sarah Warner, quiet. White had seven kills on the night, and Warner brought in six kills for the Eagles. This was the fewest kills Warner has had since coming back from an injury early in the season.

The Eagles' best performance came in the first game, when they were able to climb out of a 13-20 deficit and cut the lead to a three-point margin, 18-21, though that was not enough to keep them in the game. The Eagles only led twice the entire night, once to start the first game 2-0 and the second time to start the third game 1-0.

Head coach Steve Bain commented after the game, "We knew going into the match that first contacts in the serve-receive battle would be critical, and as the stat line will show, Corban dominated from beginning to end. They are an excellent team and are playing their best at the right time. On a positive note, we are pleased with the progress the Eagles made this season, and we are looking forward to getting back to work, so that we can build on the progress we have made."
