Kirkland, Wash. – Northwest University (2-6, 0-1 CCC) lost to Multnomah University (5-3, 1-0 CCC) with a last-second game-winner from the Lions. The final score was 77-75, as the Eagles lost their first conference game of the year. Â
Â
Despite the loss, Miranda Langenhorst had an incredible night for the Eagles, scoring 28 points and grabbing 22 rebounds, along with a team-high four assists. Alyx Fast added 14 points on 4-9 shooting from deep.
Â
The game started poorly for the Eagles, who allowed Multnomah's Sequoia Wheeler to make five three-pointers in a row. The Eagles stayed in the game, though, going into the second quarter down only four points.
Â
With 2:30 left in the game, the Eagles found themselves up by five points after two consecutive three-pointers from Alyx Fast. With 50 seconds left, a layup from Hayden Craig tied the game at 75 points apiece. A wild sequence followed that, with both teams turning the ball over on consecutive possessions and both teams missing potential game-winners in the last 14 seconds. After securing a rebound, the Lions called a timeout with four seconds left. They drew up a play for their shooter Sequoia Wheeler, who nailed a running floater at the last second to put the Lions up 77-75. Wheeler finished with 24 points.
Â
An exciting note from this game: Miranda Langenhorst's impressive performance tonight added to her career point total, having already surpassed 1,000 points in the last game. Similarly, Mariah Stacona currently stands at 999 points in her career. Although she is out with an injury, we look forward to seeing her break the 1,000-point milestone!

Northwest head coach
Ken Crawford commented, "What an exciting game tonight for our conference opener. Thanks to all the Eagle fans who made it such a great atmosphere! I thought that we played hard in spots, but we continue to learn the lesson of needing to play hard for all 40 minutes. We had too many missed opportunities and mistakes at crucial times in the game. We get another opportunity to improve tomorrow night versus Warner Pacific. Hope to see everyone there!"
