No. 24 Northwest University Volleyball Dominates First Home Match

Kirkland, WA – No. 24 Northwest University volleyball (4-5, overall) shone with a full pavilion for their first home match. The Eagles jumped ahead early in the first game and continued to spread out the game. The second game appeared to look similarly as the Eagles took the lead 7-1. Later in the game, Columbia Bible College fought their way back to a 16-16 game. Northwest University refocused and finished the match, winning 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 25-14).

Northwest University put on a hitting performance for their first home match. This was the highest hitting percentage of the year, hitting .329 percent. Keann White, a junior from Spokane, Washington, had an outstanding performance, leading the Eagles in blocking (4) and kills (8). Sarah Howlett was not far behind with 8 kills and 3 blocks.

Julia Weiss from Columbia Bible College supported her team well with 8 digs and 3 assists. She also tied with the most kills, 4. Rebecca Vanderdeen also picked up 7 kills and 1 ace.

After the game, Head Coach Steven Bain remarked, "There was a terrific crowd in the gym tonight that brought high energy, and both teams were motivated to play hard. Credit Columbia, because even though they are just four days into their preparation, they were strong from the service line and had good ball control. I'm sure they will improve significantly over the course of their season. On our side of the net, we have a young team, so I was pleased with their flexibility and mindset as we challenged them with a number of different combinations. I think that may have affected our rhythm in the second set, but the ladies showed some resiliency and were able to step up and take control when the match was on the line."
