SALEM, Ore. – A hard-fought battle came up short for Northwest Tuesday, ending volleyball season with a 3-1 loss at Corban, 9-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-21.

Abigail Broussard had a dozen kills, and
Keann White added 10. Broussard served up four aces.
Anna Saelens had 14 assists, and
Courteney Carr added 11.

Kylie Szczepanski had seven blocks, while White added five and Broussard four.
Hannah Michaels led the back-row defense with 16 digs, followed by
Cristina Hegarty with 15, and
Tatiana Ensz with 12.

"Every season comes to an end, and this loss is as disappointing as any other," said NU Head Coach
Steve Bain. "Credit Corban, though, because they made plays when the match was on the line, and we didn't. They earned the win, and we wish them well as they advance. As for the Eagles, my disappointment with the outcome is tempered by the quality of the young women in our program, and with only two seniors, we have a strong foundation going into next year."

The Eagles dominated in the first set, using a 9-2 run to build a 9-3 lead. Broussard had two kills and an ace, while
Hannah Lord and
Sarah Howlett provided kills in that spree.

Northwest followed up with a 9-0 run in which Ensz had two aces, and White had a block and two kills. Broussard punctuated the first-set win with a kill.

The Warriors broke open a one-point game with a pair of 4-0 runs in the second set to tie the match.

NU got out to a 19-12 lead in the third set, but Corban tied the game at 19-19. The Eagles led 22-19 and 23-21 but could not close out the set. The Warriors finished on a 5-1 run to take the 2-1 lead in the match.

After trailing 6-1 and 9-3 in the fourth set, Northwest battled back to take a 21-20 lead, but Corban again rallied late, scoring the final five points.

The match was the career finale for seniors White and Szczepanski.Â

The Eagles finished the season at 13-14.
