Eagles Lose in Playoffs to End Season

Written by: Clayton Hashley

Salem, Ore. – Northwest University (11-20) lost to Corban University (23-8) in the CCC Tournament Quarterfinal presented by U.S. Bank. Their season comes to an unfortunate end after the 80-68 loss.

Despite being down for the majority of the game, the Eagles pushed back in the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 69-66 with 3:45 left in the game. However, the Warriors finished on an 11-2 run to shut down the Eagles' comeback effort.

Northwest seniors Miranda Langenhorst and Mariah Stacona gave their all in their last game, with Stacona racking up 14 points and five assists and Langenhorst tallying ten points and 11 rebounds. Sam Van Loo had a standout game as well, with 16 points and nine rebounds.

Corban out-performed the Eagles in a few key areas tonight, shooting 49% from the field to the Eagles' 39%. The Warriors also shot 25 free throws in the game, making 15 of them. Although the Warriors missed a substantial amount of free throws, the Eagles did not even get the opportunity, shooting zero shots from the charity stripe. The Eagles also gave up 41 points from the Warriors' Jordan Woodvine.

Northwest head coach Ken Crawford remarked, "It's a disappointing end to a great game that went down to the wire. We just couldn't hit shots at the end, and we made a couple of crucial mistakes. We had a great season with a great group of young women who have represented themselves, their teammates, and the university well."
