Eagles Split with Northwest Christian

Written by: Clayton Hashley

Bothell, Wash. – Northwest University (13-31) won one and lost one on Saturday against Northwest Christian (11-32). The first game came down to the final inning, and the Eagles lost 2-1. For the second game of the day, the Eagles found a way to compose themselves and earn the 5-2 win, bringing them to three wins on the weekend!

Game one – Northwest Christian 2, Northwest University 1

The Beacons started game one by stealing home in the first inning and adding another run off a single in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles got their first run of the game when Alexis Contreras homered to right field. This brought the Eagles within one run of tying the score. However, three outs at bat ended the game with an unfortunate loss for the Eagles.

Game two – Northwest University 5, Northwest Christian 2

After allowing the Beacons to score the first run of the second game, the Eagles rallied to score five consecutive runs—two in both the first and second inning and one in the third. For the first inning runs, Alexis Contreras hit a triple to bring her teammate Sammi Caron home. Contreras later scored after a wild pitch from the Beacons.

Courtney Heard and Caron earned RBIs in the second inning, and Sam Parisio hit a single in the third to help Isabella Gonzalez get home for the score. Although the Beacons managed to score in the sixth inning to bring them within three, it was too little too late, and the Eagles flapped away with the victory.

Head coach Pam Fink commented, "It was a great weekend celebrating the seniors. We grew as individuals and as a team this season. The future looks bright for Northwest softball."
