Great Falls, Mont. – Northwest University (9-22) continued to show resilience despite a sluggish first inning of the first game of the day against University of Providence (6-16). They lost the first game 11-4 and won the second 8-6, ending the weekend series with two wins apiece.
Â
Game one – University of Providence 11, Northwest University 4
Â
The Argos had just about as good of an offensive start as a team can have, scoring 11 runs in the first inning alone. They hit three doubles, a single, and a two-run homer to put immense pressure on the Eagles.
Â
The Eagles fought back, though. For the rest of the game, the Argos had limited scoring opportunities, as Rachel Hawley pitched magnificently, allowing just three hits and throwing eight strikeouts in the five innings she pitched.
Â
The offensive effort was there as well, with Sammi Caron at the lead, earning one RBI in the second inning and hitting a homerun in the fourth. It was not enough, though, and the Argos walked away with a game one victory.
Â
Game two – Northwest University 8, University of Providence 6
Â
The Eagles had a short memory after the first loss. Despite giving up three quick runs from the Argos in the first inning of the second game, the Eagles stormed back for the win. Jordan Dippel got things started, hitting a single in the second inning to bring home runners Jessica Nunes and Carly Tighe. Nicola Fish helped the Eagles tack on two more, hitting a double to bring
Isabella Gonzalez and Sam Parisio home for the score.
Â
This tied the game, and it was up to the offensive efforts of the Eagles in the ninth inning to provide a spark. Tighe hit a single to push the Eagles ahead by one. Ashley Oswald extended the lead even more, earning two RBIs after an error by the Providence pitcher. Finally, a wild pitch allowed Tighe to score one more to make the score 8-4.
Â
The Eagles held their ground in the bottom of the ninth, despite giving up two runs and letting a runner advance to third base after a wild pitch. A Providence batter grounded out to end the game and give the Eagles the victory.

Northwest University head coach
Pam Fink commented, "The team persevered and battled hard after the first loss. The freshmen got some big innings today. We need to find the consistency."
