Yotes Hold Off Eagles in Four

CALDWELL, Idaho – Twentieth-ranked College of Idaho sent Northwest to its third consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference loss Friday, 3-1.

The Yotes won 25-21, 25-14, 19-25, 25-19, despite a 15-kill effort by Keann White.

"Idaho put pressure on us from the get go, and we were simply too inconsistent in serve receive to sustain a side-out offense," said Eagles' Head Coach Steve Bain. "On a positive note, we didn't quit after a rough second set, and the players will take what we learned and apply it the next time we take the court."

Hannah Michaels served up six aces, and Courteney Carr had 24 assists.  Defensively, Cristina Hegarty had 19 digs, and Abi Broussard contributed six blocks.

In the opening set, the Eagles kept pace with CI to the tune of 15-15, but the Yotes rolled off a 5-1 run and took command.

An 11-1 run by the hosts was NU's undoing in the second set, as an 8-8 game turned into a 19-9 Coyote lead.

The Eagles found better footing in the third set and staved off the sweep. Michaels had three of her aces as NU built a 5-0 lead.

CI evened things at 15-15 before Northwest scored six in a row, including two kills by Hannah Lord. Lord got the game-ending kill.

After falling behind 8-2 in the fourth set, the Eagles rallied to a 9-9 tie, with Michael registering three more aces in a 6-0 run.

With the score knotted at 17 apiece, Idaho rolled off six unanswered points as part of an 8-1 run to put the set and the match out of reach.

Now 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference, the Eagles make their way to La Grande, Oregon, for a 5 p.m. Saturday match at No. 7 Eastern Oregon.
