Multnomah Falls to Six Eagles

PORTLAND – Injury-riddled Northwest got double-figure scoring from all six of its players Saturday night in a 104-98 win at Multnomah.

Tanner Davis had 26 points and nine rebounds, and Hussayn Ford racked up 22 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Eagles. Christian Hakilimali had 18 points and nine assists, Ryan Ricks had 15 points, Dejwan Walker 12, and Kelvin Omojola added 11.

All five starters played at least 31 minutes, with Omojola getting 20 minutes from off the bench. The game featured a few season highs for the Eagles, including 12 field goals by Davis, 18 rebounds by Ford, and nine assists by Hakilimali. The Eagles also blocked seven shots, with Ford getting three of those.

"I was very pleased with the way we responded after yesterday," said NU Head Coach Jeff Drinkwine. "We were able to outlast them in the end. Multnomah has some dangerous players to complement one of the best shooters in the country. Tanner and Hussayn were relentless on both ends of the floor tonight. With help from others, Christian had the assignment of guarding Martin. He played great defense, and Justin Martin still scored 40. Yet, we were happy with the effort. On to the next one."
The Lions led 50-48 at the half and held an 85-83 edge with 5:47 remaining in the game. Justin Martin, who last week set an NAIA Division II record with 72 points in a game, scored 37 of his 40 points to that point.
Martin missed his next four shots and turned the ball over while the Eagles got busy on offense. Walker tied the game with a pair of free throws to start a 14-0 NU run. Davis had six points in that spree, giving the Eagles a 97-85 lead with 2:05 remaining.

Walker put the Eagles into triple digits with a free throw with 42 seconds left in the game. For NU, it was the first 100-point game since November.

The win propels the Eagles to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Northwest heads back home for a weekend series against Northwest Christian Friday and Corban Saturday. Both games are 7:30 p.m. tips.
