Eagles Shuck Geoducks

OLYMPIA – Northwest cruised past Evergreen State, 95-67, Tuesday to set up a weekend showdown between Cascade Collegiate Conference unbeatens.

The Eagles shot a phenomenal 55 percent on 29 three-point attempts, with Dejwan Walker knocking down eight of his 12 attempts from the perimeter. Ryan Ricks and Kelvin Omojola had four three-pointers apiece.

Walker led the Eagles with 26 points, and Hussayn Ford, who leads both divisions of the NAIA in double-doubles, cranked out another one Tuesday with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Ricks also added 16 points, and Omojola came off the bench for 14. Tanner Davis had seven points and seven assists, and Christian Hakilimali added six points and six assists. The Eagles had 29 assists in the game. Walker led the team with three steals.

Walker scored eight points as the Eagles opened the contest on a 16-4 run and never looked back. The first-half lead peaked at 47-27 on a Davis basket with 2:24 left. NU had a 50-33 lead at halftime.

The game never got closer than that as Northwest began the second half on a 7-0 run. Omojola hit a three-pointer with 8:10 remaining in the game for the largest NU lead, 81-48.

"It's always tough to win a conference came on the road. I thought our guys played very well as a team," said NU Head Coach Jeff Drinkwine. "They shared the ball as a great team effort. Whenever we have 29 assists, it definitely shows guys share the ball and want to play with each other. Evergreen is very athletic. It was good to see our guys handle their pressure. Now it's time to get ready for the next one Friday."

Now 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the CCC, the Eagles battle No. 5 College of Idaho in the Kristi Brodin Pavilion Friday at 7:30 p.m.
