KIRKLAND – Northwest offset a 49-point outing by Multnomah's Justin Martin with a strong presence inside for a 90-81 victory Friday.
Â
Hussayn Ford scored 24 points and brought down 16 rebounds, while
Tanner Davis scored 23 points for the Eagles.
Â
Northwest trailed 37-35 at the half but made an offensive adjustment in the second half and blazed the nets for 55 points.
Â
"Justin Martin just makes it look so effortless that I thought we were doing a poor job on defense in the first half--but we wanted to hold them to 35, so we did better than I thought," said NU Head Coach
Jeff Drinkwine. "We did a better job of moving the ball and getting it inside where we needed it in the second half."
Â
The game stayed close for most of the second half, but the Eagles got some separation with an 11-0 run to take a 76-64 edge with 4:33 remaining in the game.
Dejwan Walker had two three-pointers in that spree.
Â
A couple of Lion three-pointers brought MU back to within five, 78-73, with 2:22 left, but Ford got a three-point play and scored again with 1:41 remaining for an 83-73 lead.
Â
Joining Ford and Davis in double figures for the Eagles were
Kelvin Omojola with 13, Ryan Ricks with 12, and Christian Hakilimali with 10.Â
Â
Now 15-8 overall and 10-4 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles host Warner Pacific at 7:30 p.m., Saturday.
