Lewis-Clark Clips Eagles in Five

KIRKLAND – Northwest battled but fell to Lewis-Clark State in five sets for the second time this season.

LCSC won 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 24-26, 15-7.

The Warriors battled from six points down to tie the first set at 23-23, but a service error and an Abigail Broussard ace gave NU the opening win.

The Eagles had 10 attack errors in the second set and the Warriors made the most of a .211 attack percentage in the third set to take a 2-1 lead.

Northwest came out strong in the fourth set, building a 12-5 lead. Susanna Bailey had four kills in a 6-0 run. LCSC rallied back and tied the set at 23-23 but the Eagles forced a fifth set with a kill by Broussard and an attack error by the Warriors.

After falling behind 2-0, Lewis-Clark State went on a 10-2 tear and coasted home for the fifth-set win.

"LCSC played with great resolve and when the match was on the line, they made more plays than we did and when that occurs, the result is predictable," said NU Head Coach Steven Bain. "As well, their ability to pressure us both from the service line and in transition was another key, especially in the fifth set. No time though to worry about what might have been because we have another challenging week again so time to reset and bring great energy and focus to our preparation."

Bailey led the Eagles with 22 kills while Broussard tacked on 17. Anna Saelens had 50 assists and three aces.

Broussard was in on seven blocks, followed by Megan Horne with six and Azaria Johnson with five.

Horne led the Eagles with 19 digs. Saelens added 14 and Cristina Lorenz tacked on 13.

The Eagles, 11-12 overall and 10-8 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, head to Oregon next weekend to play Bushnell and Corban.
