KIRKLAND –
Elliot Misic got the golden goal for his record-tying sixth game winner of the season to lift Northwest to an important 1-0 overtime win over Eastern Oregon on Friday.
Â
The win keeps Northwest in the five-team logjam for the final three playoff spots with the regular season closing this weekend.
Â
Eastern Oregon has 18 points (three points for a win, one point for a tie), followed by Northwest, Evergreen State, Rocky Mountain, and Carroll, all at 17. NU plays College of Idaho, and Eastern Oregon plays Evergreen State on Saturday. Rocky Mountain plays Carroll on Sunday.
Â
"I liked how we came out today and took control of the game right from the beginning," said NU Head Coach
Gary McIntosh. "We played with a lot of heart and determination, which is good to see. We will enjoy today's win for a moment, but we must turn our focus to tomorrow's game now. Tomorrow is senior day, and we get the opportunity to recognize them before the game."
Â
Though the game went to overtime with no score, the Eagles had outshot Eastern Oregon 22-9 and had 13 shots on goal through regulation.
Â
The Eagles got the winner in the 99th minute.
Gian Herrera made a terrific pass to Misic, who beat the keeper for the game's only tally. It was Misic's fifth shot on goal of the day.
Â
Misic's ninth goal of the season puts him in a tie for most game winners in a season at six, joining Taylor Young (2014).
Â
NU finished the contest with 25 shots, led by Misic with seven and Herrera with four. Misic led with five of NU's 15 shots on goal. Herrera,
