KIRKLAND – Northwest got double-doubles from
Tanner Davis and Rayvaugn Bolton to open Cascade Collegiate Conference action with an 89-71 win over Evergreen State on Tuesday.
Davis produced 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Bolton racked up 17 points and 11 caroms.
CaCoa Chatman added 16 points and eight assists, while Tre Newman had 17 points in his debut as a starter.
"We shared the ball as well as we've done this year," said NU Head Coach
Jeff Drinkwine. "Tanner and Rayvaughn went to work tonight, and we had a very well-balanced approach. I thought Tre and Joose (Lee) had their best games at NU tonight."
The teams played evenly through the first five minutes before the Eagles went on a 12-1 run to build a 23-12 lead. Lee and
Connor Drinkwine had three points each in that spree.
The first-half lead peaked at 43-27 on a Chatman three-pointer with 2:46 to go, and the Eagles led 46-32 at the half.
The Geoducks got the lead down to 10 with nine minutes into the second half, but
Devante Powell and Chatman had three-pointers to get the lead back out to 15 points. The Eagles led by as many as 19 points.
"They started guarding Connor tightly, so it was good to see Devante and Coa make their three-pointers," said Coach Drinkwine. "That was big. Everybody that went in tonight contributed."
The Eagles, now 2-2, host NCAA Division II Texas-Permian Basin in an exhibition Friday at 5 p.m. and Puget Sound at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
