KIRKLAND –
CaCoa Chatman buried a clutch three-pointer from the right corner with eight seconds left and Northwest claimed a 77-74 win over the Seattle Mountaineers in an exhibition Monday.
The Mountaineers led 70-69 with 1:45 remaining, but
Jason Brown Jr. made two free throws to give the lead back to NU 10 seconds later. NU had a one-point lead when Chatman hit the three-pointer for a four-point lead.
Seattle made it 76-74 before
Rayvaughn Bolton sank a free throw for the final margin.
A would-be game-tying three-pointer by former NU All-American Hussayn Ford came up short at the buzzer.
Five Eagles reached double figures in a balanced scoring attack, led by
Tanner Davis and Bolton with 13 each.
Connor Drinkwine scored 12 and Chatman and
Daniel Sharpe got 10 points each.
Davis also gave the Eagles a 45-30 rebound advantage with 12 boards. He also led with four assists.
Drinkwine and AJ Chappell had three steals each.
Jawan Stepney led the Mountaineers with 15points. Ford finished with 13 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
The Eagles officially start the season Saturday at home with a 3 p.m. contest against Linfield.
