SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Northwest finished the 2021 season in the quarterfinals of the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 2-0 loss to top-seeded Warner Pacific on Tuesday.
Â
Warner Pacific scored a deflating goal by Christian Bahena with 92 seconds remaining in the first half. Hunter Leach also scored for the Knights in the 63
rd minute.
Â
"I thought we played well in the first half and created a few opportunities for us that we just needed to be a little more clinical on our finishing," said NU Head Coach
Gary McIntosh. "The goal that they got in the final minutes of the first half was a blow to us. I thought in the second half we came out and played well enough again to find a goal, but it just wasn't meant to be. They are the number one seed for a reason, and they played well and made sure we didn't get good looks in the second half. I'm proud of the team for earning a spot in the playoffs and giving me their all."
Â
Alexander Thiehofe had eight saves for NU.
Â
Northwest had eight shots in the game, putting five on goal.
Elliot Misic led the Eagles with two shots. Misic,
Kyle Han,
Jacob Moon,
Frederik Marten, and
Tyler Siedenburg tested the WPU keeper once each.
Â
The Eagles finished the season at 10-7-2. The .579 winning percentage is tied for the fourth-best percentage in school history.
