KIRKLAND – Northwest knocked off Linfield, 64-47, picking up a pair of milestones along the way.
Â
Livi Lindsey had two steals and established a new career record with her 118th and 119th steal. Coach Ken Crawford picked up his 200th career win with the victory.
Â
Lindsey entered the night tied at 117 steals with Dena Cambra and Katy Lockard but got a steal in the opening quarter to take the record for herself.
Â
"Livi is part of a long line of good, quick guards here at Northwest," said Crawford. "She responds well to plays and where the ball is going. She has a motor that just keeps going."
Â
Crawford added career win No. 200 just under a month after netting his 100th at Northwest. He had 95 wins as the head coach at Biola from 2005-11.
Â
"As I said before, I've never made a basket or gotten a rebound," Crawford said. "I've been blessed with really great assistant coaches and players. It just means I've been around a long time."
Â
"Coach Crawford is a great coach," said NU Director of Athletics Gary McIntosh. "Northwest is proud of what he has accomplished. Two hundred wins is an awesome achievement. Congrats, Coach; we are glad you are at NU."
The Eagles struggled early, shooting 29 percent in the first quarter as LU led by as many as six points and took a 16-11 advantage into the second quarter.
Â
Northwest got its first lead at the 7:17 mark of the second quarter on a basket by Lindsey. The lead see-sawed a little after that, but the Eagles took a 28-26 edge into the lockers at halftime.
Â
After falling behind by a point, Northwest went on a 9-0 run to build a 47-39 lead and closed the third quarter up 51-41. Four Eagles contributed points in that outburst.
Â
The Eagles went on a 10-1 run to start the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach, getting points from five different players. The spree ended with NU leading 61-42.Â
Â
Grace Meza led NU with 15 points, followed by Sam VanLoo with 13 and Lindsey with 11. Maya DuChesne had six assists to go with six points.Â
Â
VanLoo brought down nine rebounds, and DuChesne led with three steals.
Â
"That was a tough game," said Crawford. "We had to use some versatility tonight in that we had to move to a smaller, quicker lineup and make adjustments on defense. Coach Casey Bunn-Wilson always does a great job at LU. It might not have looked like it, but tonight was a quality win."
Â
The Eagles improved to 7-2 on the season and play Pacific Lutheran at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
