Corban Holds Off NU's Second-Half Charge

KIRKLAND – Northwest didn't match Corban's intensity level early, and the Warriors claimed an 84-77 win over the Eagles Saturday.

Corban started strong with a 10-0 run capitalizing off early turnovers. They held the lead for the remainder of the game taking home the victory.

Turnovers played a key role in this victory for Corban, forcing 12 of NU's 18 turnovers in the first half alone.

"They jumped on us quick," said NU Head Coach Jeff Drinkwine. "To their credit, they kept up that intensity for most of the game."

Corban went onto score 46 points in the first half. NU would match that with 46 points of their own in the second half, but the slow start proved costly.

Taylor Anderson came off the bench for Corban and still led with a game-high 21 points, going 3-of-6 from deep.

"I'm happy with the effort in the second half," Drinkwine said.

Corban had their largest lead of the game at 18 with 10 minutes left on the clock, and NU made a push down to the wire closing the lead to five points with 3:30 remaining.

This comeback attempt began with a 14-3 run in which Cesar Sandoval, Pa'Treon Lee, and Cacoa Chatman shined. Sandoval and Lee lead the way with having 17 points apiece.

Sandoval would also grab 12 rebounds, giving him back-to-back games with a double-double.

In reminiscence of last night's game, a similar turning point took place late in the final stretch of the second half, where Chatman got a steal and closed the gap to six, with six minutes remaining. Lee also got a crucial turnover that led to 3-pointer by Chatman with 19 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to five. Unfortunately for NU, they could not overcome their first half even with an extremely well-played second half.
