Top-Ranked SOU Takes Two

BELLEVUE – Northwest had a good day throwing out baserunners but came up short in two games against top-ranked Southern Oregon, 15-0 and 4-0.

Northwest catcher Sydney Maurer threw out three for four would-be base stealers, and centerfielder Jordan Dippel had four outfield assists in the doubleheader. Dippel started a double play from center field with a diving grab in the second game.

"We made some good plays defensively," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We just have to come ready to play from the start. We had a much better second game, but we're still not hitting well. We're going to get there."

Northwest had two hits in the opener as Gabby Sandoval held the Eagles to singles by Dippel and Starlynn Ripley while striking out seven batters.

Riley Donovan had four hits and four RBI for SOU in the opener.

Maurer took the loss as the starting pitcher.

Abby Brake went three innings in the second game, holding SOU to two runs on four hits before exiting the game with an injury. Becca Rennick finished up, allowing two runs over four innings.

Lauren Quirke got the win, striking out eight and holding Northwest to a Nicola Fish single.

Olivia Mackey had three hits for the Raiders.

The teams wrap up the series Sunday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Bellevue High School.
