Eagles Shut Out Raiders, 1-0

ASHLAND, Ore. – Northwest stopped a three-game slide in its tracks with a 1-0 conference road win at Southern Oregon Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, the Eagles came out attacking for the second half. NU got off four shots in the first five minutes of the half, culminating in Callie Wright's first goal of the season. With the goal, Wright became just the fourth player in NU women's soccer history to achieve 20 goals in their career.

Claire Jo Diede drove down the middle and passed to Wright left of the post. Wright put the ball in the net inside the right post.

"We knew that we needed to have a big response and performance after yesterday. The girls came out today, played their hearts, and deserved the win," said NU Head Coach Bryan Chud. "Southern is always a very tough place to come, so to get three points here was vital. I am very proud of the ladies and the performance. We look forward to a couple of days' rest, and then we'll focus on next weekend at home."

The Eagles posted 12 shots, led by Wright with five and Kayla Soderstrom with three. Wright had four shots on goal, Olivia Morris tested the keeper twice, and Diede also had a shot on goal.

Kierstin Patefield turned back three SOU shots on goal for the shutout.

Now 2-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles head home to play Providence on Friday and Rocky Mountain on Saturday. Both contests launch at 2:30 p.m.
