KIRKLAND – Northwest dropped a heartbreaker Sunday as Southern Oregon overcame a 10-point second-half deficit for a 72-69 win.
Â
CaCoa Chatman scored 19 seconds into the second half to give the Eagles a 45-35 lead. From there, Southern Oregon chipped away methodically and took a 61-60 lead with 8:01 left in the game.
Â
Rayvaughn Bolton scored with 58 seconds left, pulling NU to within 70-69 but Tez Allen got his own rebound and a putback for the final margin with 31 seconds to play.
Â
NU missed a contested three-pointer with two seconds left and got the rebound but only had time for an off-target desperation heave at the buzzer.
Â
"Great effort by our team, we just needed to execute down the stretch," said NU Head Coach
Jeff Drinkwine. "This was a good opportunity to learn and grow for our young players who haven't been in a close conference game. We definitely demonstrated improvement from last night's performance."
Â
Bolton led the Eagles with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Connor Drinkwine added 13 points, Chatman scored 11 and had five assists, and
Tanner Davis scored 10.
Â
Mundu Atmar led the Raiders with 19 points while Josh Meyer and Allen had matching 13-point, nine-rebound outings.
Â
The Eagles dip to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. NU hits the road for the first time in 2022 for games Friday at Corban and Saturday at Bushnell.
