"College of Idaho has faced some adversity this season due to injuries but that doesn't change how hard they play or how prepared they are, which is a credit to their players and staff," said NU Head Coach Steven Bain. "Their ability to side out early in the match put a premium on us to have a good approach from the service line and as the match evolved, we were able to force them out of system and extend our lead. As well, our own passing was calm and consistent, which kept us in system and allowed our setters to put our attackers in good positions. Most important though is that our ladies were able to put together a great effort after an emotionally draining match last night. That is a sign of growth and we will build on the effort as we begin the second half of the conference season."
Â
The Eagles never trailed in the first set and used a 7-2 run to build a 19-14 lead.
Â
Karste Wright put the capper on the first set with a kill.
Â
Northwest jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second set, but the Yotes closed to within a point, 18-17. The Eagles went on a 5-1 run to build a 24-19 edge and later won on a service error.
Â
CI scored first in the third set, but NU answered with four in a row, including a pair of kills by Mickle. The Eagles closed on a 3-0 run, including a match-ending kill by
Kalli Budge.
Â
The Eagles take to the road on Tuesday to start the second half of the Cascade Collegiate Conference season at Evergreen State in Olympia. First serve is at 7 p.m.
