ASHLAND - Northwest's frustration with five-set matches continued on Friday as the Eagles lost 3-2 at Southern Oregon.
Â
NU dropped to 0-6 in five-set matches. SOU won 25-22, 23-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-13.
Â
"Disappointing outcome for our ladies but still an exciting match to be a part of," said NU Head Coach Steven Bain. "Both teams played with terrific energy tonight, which was not surprising given how important this match was for post-season aspirations. We just came up short in the fifth set against a team that made more plays than we did when the match was on the line. Need to learn from this and prepare for another tough opponent tomorrow."
Â
Abigail Broussard led NU with 16 kills with
Kaitlyn Mickle and Susana Bailey adding 12 and 10 respectively.
Â
Morgan Harter had 23 assists and Anna Saelen had 19.
Â
The Eagles served 15 aces, led by Harter with six,
Reece Denney with four and Broussard with three.Â
Â
Kelsey Moore had 29 digs and Denney added 10.
Kylie Lunday had six blocks,
Delaney Sparks added four and Broussard knocked down three.
Â
Now 12-11 overall and 8-7 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles play at Oregon Tech at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
