KIRKLAND – After a donnybrook of an opening set, third-ranked Corban ripped off a three-game sweep of Northwest on Friday, 34-32, 25-12, 25-13.
Â
The teams combined for 38 kills in the first set, which ended with back-to-back kills by Allyson Reid and Avari Ridgway.
Â
"We had some good moments, especially in the first set, but the match is won and lost on the pins and Corban's ability to side out and score in transition was more then we could counter," said NU Head Coach Steven Bain. "We still have some volleyball left though and I know our ladies will regroup and bring a strong effort the next time they take the court."
Â
Rylee Troutman and Ridgway led the Warriors with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Ridgway had a .520 attack percentage.
Â
Northwest had 10 kills from
Abigail Broussard and seven each from
Kaitlyn Mickle and
Karste Wright. Broussard had a .391 attack percentage for the night.
Anna Saelens had 14 assists and
Morgan Harter added 13.
Â
NU had five aces in the match, led by
Reece Denney with two.
Â
Kelsey Moore came up with 11 digs and Broussard had a solo block and two block assists.
Â
Northwest wraps up the home portion of its schedule against Bushnell at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles will honor seniors
Alison Compton and Moore, as well as graduate students Broussard and Saelens in their last home match.
