Eagles to Host Northwest Classic this Weekend

KIRKLAND – Northwest hosts its second weekend classic in Kristi Brodin Pavilion this weekend, welcoming Whitworth, Providence and Haskell Indian Nation.
 
The Eagles play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, taking on Whitworth, before their 5 p.m. game on Saturday against Providence. Haskell plays Providence on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Whitworth at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Grace Harder leads the Eagles in scoring at 10.5 points per game. She is hitting on 42.1 percent of her field goal attempts. She has attempted two three-pointers and made one.
 
Katie Fleming leads the team with eight assists over two games and also tops the three-point shooters with a 57.1 percent accuracy level.
 
Northwest averages 35 rebounds per game without any player averaging five per game. Maria Arroyo and Kinslee Gallatin lead the team at 4.5. Arroyo leads with five offensive rebounds and Gallatin with seven defensive caroms.
 
Whitworth opened the season with a 63-57 win over Walla Walla last week. Devyn Cope and Oliva Mayer led the effort with 15 points with Mayer adding 14 rebounds. Sydney McLean had eight assists. The team struggled from the three-point line, going three of 22.
 
The Eagles are 2-6 all-time against Whitworth. The last meeting was an 83-78 Whitworth win in Kirkland in 2013.
 
Providence has won all six games in its rivalry with Northwest, including a 64-40 win last year in Kirkland.
 
Providence is 1-1 on the season with the loss coming at the hands of top-ranked Thomas Moore, 75-59. The Argos also have won three international games this fall. Brooklyn Harn averages 13.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while McKenna Reggear gets 10.8 points and 10.5 rebounds. Reed Hazard leads the Argos with 11 assists and nine steals.
