CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest went toe to toe with Montana Western but lost a heart-breaker 61-59.
Â
Northwest got out to a quick 12-2 lead with CaCoa Chatman scoring five and Daniel Sharpe four in that opening flurry. The defenses kicked in after that and NU clung to a 30-28 lead at the half.
Â
Western methodically built its lead to 60-50 with 2:07 left in the game but Northwest kept battling. The Eagles closed out the game on a 90-1 run, including seven points by Chatman, but the spree came up short.
Â
"Really proud of our guys tonight," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We played the best team we have faced who took them down to the wire the night before and we were in the fight the entire night. Our guys never quit and really locked into the keys we had. We took care of the ball with only nine turnovers and we really guarded. We got better today. We will go back to work and keep grinding."
Â
Sharpe led the Eagles with 16 and Chatman ended with 14. Drew Bryson topped the rebounds effort with 10 and also contributed with five steals.
Â
The 2-3 Eagles return to action Dec. 2-3 with their first Cascade Collegiate Conference games, hosting Lewis-Clark State and Walla Walla.
