KIRKLAND – Northwest ran out of time in its quest to pull off a mighty comeback, falling to Bushnell 95-89 on Saturday.
Â
The Eagles trailed 79-52 with 8:11 left in the game but kept up the fight. NU started the dig-out with a 17-3 run, fueled by eight points from
James Laurence, to cut the Bushnell lead to 82-69.
Â
The Beacons pushed the lead back out to 15 points, 84-69, but
Drew Bryson scored four baskets and Laurence added a three-pointer in a 7-0 NU run to trim the lead to 84-76 with 1:31 remaining.
Â
CaCoa Chatman added a late-three-pointer for the final 95-69 margin.
Â
"Even in this losing streak, our guys have not quit," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "To be down 27 and cut that lead to six. That took a lot of fortitude and I am proud of them for that. We cut down the turnovers tonight but we also are trying to focus on defense. Eighty-nine points ought to be enough to win. We have to get better on the defensive side."
Â
Chatman and
Drew Bryson led the Eagles with 16 points each with
Lewis Pope adding 12 and Laurence providing 11. Pope led with five rebounds and Chatman and AJ Chappell dished out five assists each. Chappell added three steals.
Â
Trevon Richmond and Stevie Schlabach led Bushnell with 22 points each with Spencer Hoffman going for 21 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists.
Â
The Eagles return to action Jan. 6-7 with road games at Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho, respectively.
