OLYMPIA – Northwest started the second half on a 14-6 run to break open a close game and grab an 82-66 road win at Evergreen State on Friday.
The teams went to halftime with NU up 32-29 but
Drew Bryson hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the second half for a 38-29 lead. He hit another three-pointer to give the Eagles their first 10-point bulge, 43-33, with 15:53 left in the game.
NU led by at least 10 points over the final 14:30 and the lead peaked at 73-49 with 5:47 to go when Bryson got a steal and a basket.
"We struggled with foul trouble and getting good looks in the first half but we responded very well in the second half," said NU Head Coach Rick Skeen. "We made a few adjustments and the guys really played good basketball in the second half. We will keep working to be consistent for 40 minutes but conference road wins are huge."
Bryson led the Eagles with 19 points and 14 rebounds while
Lewis Pope added a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double of his own.
CaCoa Chatman had 17 points and
James Laurence tacked on 11.
Chatman and Bryson had four steals each while Pope had four assists.
Isaiah Williams had two blocked shots.
The win puts the Eagles at 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Northwest has a non-conference home game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, hosting Pacific Lutheran.
