OLYMPIA –
Tanner Davis had an impressive double-double to lead Northwest to a 71-62 victory at Evergreen State College Tuesday night.
Davis went for 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Down 17-15 after nine minutes, NU used a 17-4 run to build a 32-21 lead with 2:56 left in the half. Five Eagles scored in that spree, led by Davis with four points. The Eagles had a 36-27 lead at halftime.
Northwest pushed the lead out to 16 points on two occasions in the second half, and the Geoducks only got as close as six points with 30 seconds left.
"This is a tough place to play, and we're glad to come out of here with a win," said NU Head Coach
Jeff Drinkwine. "I thought we played well in the first half, and things started to get away from us a little in the second half. Tanner and Coa (Chatman) did a good job keeping focused. We got the win, but we're going to have to play much better than we did tonight if we want to keep it up."
Joining Davis in double-figure scoring were
CaCoa Chatman with 13 points and
Rayvaughn Bolton with 11. Bolton also had eight rebounds and six assists.
Now 10-11 overall and 7-9 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles get back to action this weekend with two home games. Multnomah visits at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 5 p.m. contest Saturday against Warner Pacific.
