Eagles Win Thriller Against Bushnell

KIRKLAND – After leaving eight points at the free-throw line for the game, Northwest got a pair of clutch free throws from Maya DuChesne and a hard-fought defensive stop to upend Bushnell, 74-73, Friday night.

Grace Meza delivered a 69-67 Eagle lead with 1:49 left in the game but Bushnell tied the game on a basket by Aspen Slifka with 91 seconds to go.

Shelaine Lorenz put the Eagles ahead 70-69 and, after a stop, Livi Lindsey took a great pass from DuChesne and got a contested layup for a 72-69 edge.

Morgan McKinney and Slifka scored around missed NU free throws to give the Beacons a 73-72 lead with 13 seconds to go.

DuChesne was fouled while driving to the basket and sank both free throws with 10.1 seconds to play. Bushnell got off two well-contested shots but couldn't get the game-winner as time expired.

"That the kind of game that's a lot of fun if you win," said NU Head Coach Ken Crawford. "That was the best team win I've seen since I've been at Northwest. We made big plays when we needed big plays and we got big stops when we needed big stops. That didn't keep my heart from stopping on that last possession, though."

Sam VanLoo led the Eagles with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Lindsey added 16 points and DuChesne finished with 10 points and seven assists.

Bella Pedrojetti led the Beacons with 17 points, followed by Slifka with 16, Kalina Rojas with 12, and Sarah Reinecker with 11. Aly Mirabile had nine assists.

The Eagles won after trailing at halftime for just the third time this season. Bushnell scored the first seven points of the game and led 39-35 at the half. The Beacons led by as many as nine points in the third quarter.

Now 16-12 overall and 10-11 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, the Eagles play their final regular-season contest Saturday at 3 p.m., taking on Corban.
