Softball Honors Seniors

BELLEVUE – Northwest lost a pair of games on Senior Day, losing to Eastern Oregon 9-5 and 10-1 on Saturday.
 
"It was good to see all of our graduating players on the field at the same time in the second game," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We didn't get the result we wanted but it was still a special day for those eight players."
 
Playing in their last home games were grad student Sam Parisio; seniors Ashley Carter, Jordan Dippel, Nicola Fish, Livi Lindsey, Alyssa Maldonado and Jessica Nunes; and graduating sophomore Becca Rennick.
 
EOU 9, NU 5
 
The Eagles got off to a good start with single runs in the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Madisyn Leffle led off with a single, stole second and later scored on an RBI grounder by Emily Barry.
 
Nunes slugged her third home run of the season to deliver a 2-0 lead in the second.
 
EOU took over with a three-run home run by Hannah Tyree in the third and never trailed again.
 
Nunes singled, move to second on a sacrifice by Abby Blahut, to third on a base hit by Parisio and scored on a squeeze bunt by Leffle.
 
Fish had an RBI single and Dipple and RBI double in the seventh.
 
NU had seven hits, led by Nunes, who also had a double, with three.
 
The Mounties had nine hits with Tyree and Shelby Starr collecting two each.
 
EOU 9, NU 1
 
Eastern Oregon broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a nine-run eruption. Two Eagle errors led to seven unearned runs in the game.
 
NU broke up the shutout in the fourth inning when Leffle singled, stole second, moved to third on a single by Kayla Stanley and scored on a sacrifice fly by Fish.
 
The Eagles had three hits with Carter adding a single.
 
EOU had eight hits, led by Caitlin Crist and Taylor Dow with two each.
 
Northwest finishes its regular season next weekend at Bushnell with doubleheaders at 2 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
