GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Northwest stubbed its toe in the first game but had a record-setting day for a doubleheader split with Providence on Friday.

The Eagles lost the opener 12-7 but took the second game 27-0. NU set school records for runs in a game, runs in an inning, RBIs in a game, and individual RBIs in a game, and they tied the record for individual hits in a game.Â

For the day, the Eagles also saw records fall in single-season runs and single-season RBIs.
Madisyn Leffle scored five times in the doubleheader and now has 38 runs scored, breaking the old mark of 28.
Emily Barry had 11 RBIs in the doubleheader and now has 36 on the season, eclipsing the old record of 28.

"I think we'll always remember that second game and try to forget the first one," said NU Head Coach
Pam Fink. "We're trying to run down a playoff spot, and that loss was costly. It was great to see the team fire it up in the second game. We hope we can carry that momentum forward tomorrow."

Providence scored nine runs in the sixth inning to take its first lead of the day to rally from down 6-3.

Northwest took a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by
Jordan Dippel and
Alyssa Maldonado. NU went up 4-1 in the second, getting a two-run single by
Jordan Dippel.Â

Emily Barry singled in a pair of runs in the fifth for a 6-1 lead.

Leffle, Dippel, Barry, and Fish had two hits each to lead the 10-hit NU offense.

Northwest scored a record 15 runs in the first inning of the second game.Â

Leffle singled and stole her 40th base of the season before scoring on a single by Dippel. Maldonado added a two-run single, and
Jessica Nunes ripped a three-run home run for a 6-0 lead. Maldonado later added a two-run single, Nunes drew an RBI walk,
Abby Blahut singled in two runs, and
Sam Parisio added an RBI double.

Barry, who finished with a school-record eight RBIs, singled in two runs in the second and tacked on a three-run home run in the fourth for a 20-0 lead.

Kayla Stanley, Barry, and
Bella King added RBI singles, and Fish tacked on a two-run single as part of a seven-run fifth inning.

Dippel tied the school record with four hits in the game, with Stanley, Barry, and Maldonado adding three each.Â

NU had a school record of 22 hits.

To top it all off,
Becca Rennick tossed a three-hit shutout for the first NU shutout since 2019.

The teams meet again Saturday in a game pushed back to noon (Mountain time) to try to avoid colder weather.
