SALEM, Ore. – Short-handed for most of the game, Northwest opened men's soccer season with a 1-0 loss at the hands of Concordia (Neb.) Thursday at the Corban Jamboree.
Â
A red card in the 15
th minute hamstrung NU.
Â
"Going down a man so early in the game was disappointing and it changed the whole game plan," said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "We made some adjustments and I felt like the players that came on did a great job working hard. We knew we would be tested today in our first game; we just didn't know that being down a man was the test that we would face. I would say we passed the test and did a great job battling for each other. We will look at the game film and make some adjustments and get ready for Saturday's game."
Â
NU managed four shots for the contest with three of those on goal.
Jacen Stein,
Brayden Corwin and
Elliot Misic had the shots on goal. A header by
Angel Ventura was the only other shot.
Â
Ryan Wokutch got the lone goal of the contest in the 70
th minute.
Â
Michael Kot came off the bench and recorded five saves in goal in the loss.
Â
NU finishes the road trip with a Saturday afternoon contest against Northwestern (Iowa) at 4 p.m.
