Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Ray Fink, NU Sports Information

Short-handed Eagles Fall in Opener, 1-0

SALEM, Ore. – Short-handed for most of the game, Northwest opened men's soccer season with a 1-0 loss at the hands of Concordia (Neb.) Thursday at the Corban Jamboree.

A red card in the 15th minute hamstrung NU.

"Going down a man so early in the game was disappointing and it changed the whole game plan," said NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "We made some adjustments and I felt like the players that came on did a great job working hard. We knew we would be tested today in our first game; we just didn't know that being down a man was the test that we would face. I would say we passed the test and did a great job battling for each other. We will look at the game film and make some adjustments and get ready for Saturday's game."

NU managed four shots for the contest with three of those on goal. Jacen Stein, Brayden Corwin and Elliot Misic had the shots on goal. A header by Angel Ventura was the only other shot.

Ryan Wokutch got the lone goal of the contest in the 70th minute.

Michael Kot came off the bench and recorded five saves in goal in the loss.

NU finishes the road trip with a Saturday afternoon contest against Northwestern (Iowa) at 4 p.m.
