Eagles Get Fourth CCC Road Win

LEWISTON, Idaho – Northwest picked up its fourth Cascade Collegiate Conference road win of the season on Saturday, knocking off Lewis-Clark State, 3-1.

Northwest had a five-point lead in the first set before the Warriors later ended things on an 11-2 run. The Eagles bounced back from there, winning 18-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-12.

"Every night in this conference is a challenge, and tonight was no different," said NU Head Coach Seven Bain. "LCSC applied pressure in that first set, and we struggled to side out. We decided to make some adjustments between sets one and two that allowed us to stabilize in serve-receive, which improved our side out. From there, we were good from the service line, and the ladies did a terrific job of staying on task and playing assignment volleyball."

Down 13-12 in the second set, the Eagles used a 7-2 run, including two kills and a block assist by Abigail Broussard, to build a 19-15 lead. Kylie Lunday ended the set with a kill to tie the sets at one each.

NU trailed by three at four different junctures in the third set but came out of a timeout with seven consecutive points. Four different Eagles had kills in that run and put Northwest ahead 21-17. The Warriors closed to within 24-22, but Delaney Sparks sealed the set with a kill.

Northwest took control of the fourth set with an 8-1 run for a 13-7 lead. Karste Wright had three kills in that string for NU. Lunday had two kills and a block assist in a 7-0 run that gave the Eagles a 20-9 advantage. Kelsey Moore ended the night with an ace. The Eagles fired off a strong .406 attack percentage in the final frame.

Broussard and Wright led the attack for NU with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, with Lunday adding nine and Kaitlyn Mickle seven. Lunday swung a .444 percentage with Broussard at .429. Anna Saelens had 38 assists and two aces.

Lunday was a part of six blocks, while Sparks, Broussard, and Saelens got in on three each. Kelsey Moore had 14 digs, and Ellie Van Berkum added 12 for the back row.

Now 8-7 overall and 4-3 in the CCC, NU heads to Oregon next week for matches Friday at Bushnell and Saturday at Corban.
