Block Party Secures Eagle Victory: 3-1

KIRKLAND, WA - The rematch between Northwest University and Bushnell fell in favor of the Eagles tonight during a competitive four set match, 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 25-11.

Kaitlyn Mickle and Delaney Sparks opened up the first set with five kills combined, giving rhe Eagles a 5-2 lead. The Beacons had trouble connecting with Eagles attacks giving NU the offensive momentum the entire set. Sparks assisted on a Block with Kalli Budge to end the first set at 25-19.

The Beacons set the tone for the second set with back-to-back kills. Bushnell continued to fire at the net which forced the Eagles to regather and find the rhythm they let slip away. A few Beacons errors let NU back into the set and eventually extend their lead. Susanna Bailey secured the second set victory with a kill tossed up by Morgan Harter.

Both teams alternated one point leads in the third set up until the Beacons pulled away at 22-18. The Eagles made an effort to claw their way back but dropped the set at 23-25.

The first three points went in favor of the Beacons followed by seven consecutive points by the Eagles. Four of those seven points came from blocks in which Kalli Budge played a role in each. The Eagles continued to pound the ball on the opposite side of the net and close the four set match with a kill from Sparks at 25-11.

Head Coach Steve Bains says, "After struggling last weekend on the road, we knew we would be tested by a strong Bushnell team.  With the exception of that fourth set, both teams were siding out at a high percentage and points were hard to come by. Fortunately, we were able to put together point scoring runs at the end of the first two sets, but credit Bushnell for turning the tables in that third set. The fourth set was just one of those moments where everything went our way and credit our ladies for staying in the moment and closing out the match."

Mickle and Sparks each collected 12 kills, and Susanna Bailey, 11.

Kalli Budge made her presence known at the net with seven total blocks

Allie Flynn recorded a double-double 24 assists, 14 digs, and two aces.

Kelsey Moore collected 17 digs.

The Eagles host Corban University tomorrow night in the Kristi Brodin Pavilion, at 7 pm.
