Eagles Complete Series Sweep of WPU

KIRKLAND – Northwest completed the four-game sweep of Warner Pacific on Saturday, winning the final pair of games 12-0 and 6-2.
 
The Eagles swept a four-game Cascade Collegiate Conference series for the first time and opened the CCC season at 3-0, also for the first time.
 
Natalie Dimitrov (4-1) tossed a two-hitter for her second shutout of the season in the opener.
 
The Eagles scored three times in the first inning. Madisyn Leffle singled, stole second and scored on a home run by Kayla Stanley. Paige Creasy singled and scored on a base hit by Jamelah Lewis.
 
NU added three more in the second on a two-run single by Sydney Maurer, who later scored as part of a double-steal attempt.
 
Lewis added another RBI single in the third for a 7-0 lead.
 
The Eagles got the run-rule cushion with five runs in the fourth, including a three-run home run by Maurer and RBI singles by Olivia Brown and Leffle.
 
NU had 16 hits in the game, including four by Leffle, three by Maurer and two each by Stanley, Chloe Van Boekhout and Lewis. Creasey, Brown and Bella King had one each.
 
The Eagle onslaught continued in the early innings of the second game. Maurer had a two-run double in the first inning and Brown launched her first home run as an Eagle.
 
Emma Foster homered to give Warner Pac its only two runs of the day in the fourth inning to make it a 3-2 game.
 
The Eagles go their offense going again in the fifth for three runs an RBI ground out by Stanley, an RBI double by Maurer and an RBI single by Creasey.
 
NU had seven hits in the game with Maurer leading with two, while Leffle, Stanley, Creasey, Brown and King had one each.
 
King (4-2) went the distance in the circle to get the win.
 
Maurer's eight RBIs on Saturday have her in second nationally with 22. Leffle had four stolen bases on Saturday and sits fifth nationally with 15.
 
"Great wins today," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "We came out swinging in that first game! Nat and Bella did fantastic work in the circle again. Fun to watch Liv get her first collegiate home run!"
 
The 9-4 Eagles head to Corban next weekend for four games, beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday in Salem, Oregon.
