HELENA, Mont. –
Sydney Maurer broke the single season RBIs and doubles records at Northwest during a doubleheader split at Carroll College on Sunday.
Â
NU lost the conference finale 9-0 before bouncing back for a 10-9 win in the series closer.
Â
Maurer had two RBIs in the second game, giving her 47 for the season.
Emily Barry had 45 last season.
Â
Maurer also added her eighth home run to tie
Jessica Nunes and Katelyn Riedinger's single-season record and had two doubles to break the school single-season mark of 10, shared by five players.
Â
"I'm so proud of Syd," said NU Head Coach Pam Fink. "She has worked so hard and put so much effort into this. She's absolutely crushing it right now. That home run today was monstrous."
Â
After being shut out on two hits (singles by Maurer and
Chloe Van Boekhout) in the opener, the Eagles fell behind quickly, 6-0, in the second game.
Â
NU got on the scoreboard with a two-run home run by
Kayla Stanley in the third. After a walk to Maurer and a double by
Paige Creasey,
Jamelah Lewis ripped a two-run double to cut the deficit to 6-4. Van Boekhout singled in Lewis to cut the score to 6-5.
Â
Bella King and
Madisyn Leffle scored when Leffle's bunt single was thrown into right field and then into left, giving NU a 7-6 edge. Maurer doubled and scored on an error to make it 8-6.
Â
Carroll pulled to within 8-7 before Maurer launched a two-run home run in the sixth for a 10-7 lead.
Â
The Saints scored two in the seventh and had the tying run at third before
Natalie Dimitrov induced a grounder to shortstop to get the pitching win.
Â
NU had 10 hits, led by Maurer with three and Leffle with two.
Â
"I'm proud of the way the team fought back and got that win in the second game," Fink said.
Â
The Eagles host fifth-ranked Oregon Tech Friday and Saturday in Bellevue.
