Newberg, OR - VanAssche shakes off the summer rust for Northwest University with two goals against George Fox this afternoon in a 4-1 win.
George Fox started the match off with a goal in the 29th minute, lighting a fire inside the Eagle offense.
After a two-game drought to start the Eagles off, Morgan Perrigoue scored NU's first goal of the 2023 season in the 32nd minute.Â
A tied match was of no interest to the Eagles, especially for Gracie VanAssche who took the lead with a goal off a free kick four minutes into the second half. VanAssche scored again 3.5 minutes later to extend the lead, 3-1. Rachel Russell had the assist.
The Eagle offense continued to put pressure on the Bruins, which resulted in an own goal off a George Fox defender.
The Bruins struggled to get past the harsh NU defense, only allowing three shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Ella Wilson had two saves.
Head Coach April VanAssche says, "The team really came together today firing on all cylinders. They played as a team on both sides of the ball which created a lot of scoring opportunities for us. This was a good game to build off of and fun to get out first win this season. I'm proud of them."
The women play a week from today on September 1 at Lewis & Clark College at 3:30 pm.
