COLLEGE PLACE, WA - Women's volleyball fastens its first weekend sweep taking three sets off of Walla Walla, 25-13, 25-13, 25-10.
In set one of the match, the Eagles pulled away with four consecutive points, including two service aces from Masa Spela Jarc, giving them a 16-12 lead. This forced a Walla Walla timeout which only produced one more point for the Wolves before NU ended the set.
The Eagles continued the attack in the second set, quickly taking the frame at 25-13. After another Masa Spela Jarc ace, Delaney Sparks, Azaria Johnson, and Karste Wright, each had one kill after another to catalyze the NU 2-0 lead.
Head Coach Steve Bain syas, "We knew going into the match that the Wolves would fight for every point and we challenged our team to match their fight with our own commitment to compete for each point. For the most part we accomplished that goal, especially when it came to first contacts in the serve and pass phase. Overall, we are pleased to open CCC play with two road wins and look forward to building on the lessons we learned this weekend."
Kaitlyn Mickle opened up the third frame with three consecutive kills. The Eagles had their largest lead of the night at 21-3, and ended the match at 25-10.Â
Kaitlyn Mickle and Delaney Sparks each had nine kills. Kylie Lunday had seven kills on eight attempts in addition to three blocks.Â
Morgan Harter collected 20 assists on the night.
The women have a quick turnaround, as their next match will be at home on September 5. The Eagles match up with the Evergreen State Geoducks for their home opener at 7 pm.
