Second Weekend Sweep: 3-0

PORTLAND, OR - Women's volleyball broke away with a weekend sweep tonight, defeating the Lions of Multnomah University, 25-23, 25-19, 25-17.

The Eagles and Lions exchanged points the entire first set, with the largest lead by the Eagles at 24-21. MU was able to connected twice more before Karste Wright ended the frame with her fifth kill of the set at 25-23.

A service ace from Allie Flynn followed by a kill from Halsie Keltner put NU up 11-6, forcing an MU timeout. The Lions continued to trail the rest of the set, Delaney Sparks and Kalli Budge ending it with a block to make it 25-19.

The Eagles jumped ahead in the third set leading 10-4. NU kept composure and continued to see results from its usual court leadership, taking the third and final set at 25-17.

Ellie Van Berkum stepped up for the Eagles tonight as libero, collecting 21 digs.

Kaitlyn Mickle and Karste Wright fueled the offense each reaching double digits in kills. Allie Flynn and Morgan Harter both had 17 assists on the night.

Head Coach Steve Bain says, "I was impressed with Multnomah's consistency, their physically energy, and approach. They really pushed us in the first set. Similar to last night, we were able to put pressure on them with first contacts which gave us an opportunity to control the match. Overall, it was a good road trip for the Eagles. We learned a lot about ourselves that will help us improve as we enter into the second half of the season."

Women's volleyball has one more weekend before they enter the second half of the season. The Eagles host Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech next weekend starting on September 29, at 7 p.m. against the Raiders.
