Eagles Finish Road Trip With A Sweep

Olympia, WA - The Northwest University Eagles finish their road trip with a sweep over the Evergreen State Geoducks, 3-0.

The Eagles took all four wins on the road while picking up two sweeps against Multnomah and Evergreen State.

The first set started with NU building a sizable 7-4 lead, thanks to server Masa Spela-Jarc, but Evergreen Statekept it close. Despite the Geoducks' best efforts, the Eagles kept slowly pulling away with small momentum swings, allowing for the team to win the set, 25-19.

The second set featured an early lead for Evergreen State, but thanks to server Allie Flynn and middle blocker Azaria Johnson, NU was able to take the lead right back, 9-6. It was an entire team effort to keep the Geoducks from getting the win, but the Eagles were able to hold off, winning once again, 25-19.

The third set saw a dominant performance from NU. With excellent serving by Ellie Van Berkum, the Eagles finished the third set going for a 6-0 stretch to put the game fully away in a 25-14 set victory.

Kaitlyn Mickle led the team in kills with 10, and Aubree Dees continued to impress with eight kills on the night. Ellie Van Berkum and Morgan Harter shined on the defensive side, with Van Berkum getting 18 digs and Harter 13.

"Last night's road win at Evergreen was due in large part to our ability to win the first contact battle," said Head Coach Steven Bain. "In that regard, we were able to apply serving pressure on Evergreen, which made it tough for the Geoducks to score, and we were also relatively clean in serve-receive. Still, our ladies know that they can do a better job of playing clean on offense, which would complement our first contacts and improve our side out and point scoring ability. The team is now looking forward to returning home to face two strong opponents after starting the second half of the conference schedule with 5 road matches."
