Kirkland, WA - The Northwest volleyball team got swept by Southern Oregon in the season finale.
The Eagles' path to the playoffs had one more hurdle to get over, and it was against the best team in the conference. The Raiders were simply bigger, faster, and stronger.
The first set didn't look lopsided in the beginning. Both the Eagles and the Raiders couldn't shake each other off; however, the Raiders took command in the middle of the set and drove the rest of the way. The Eagles had a couple of chances to gain momentum, but the Raiders took care of business, winning 25-18.
The second set was once again deadlocked on the scoreboard, but the Raiders were far stronger in front of the net, stifling any attack the Eagles may have attempted. There were moments when the Eagles had good plays, but the Raiders were just too strong. The Raiders won the second set, 25-15.
The Raiders' defense continued to stand tall in the third set with little the Eagles could've done to surmount the net presence. Only able to muster 17 points, the Eagles ended the game on a sour note due to a service error, briskly ending their season on a 25-17 victory for the Raiders.
"Even though this season did not unfold in the manner we expected, the final match still meant something to both teams," said Head Coach Steven Bain. "In that regard, our staff was proud of how our ladies embraced the challenge, but unlike last night when we were able to exert pressure with our first contacts, Southern Oregon turned the tables and was dominant in the serve and pass game. From there, we were forced to play in transition and simply couldn't match Southern's point scoring."
