Eugene, OR - The Eagles fall short against the Beacons, 3-1, on Friday.
The Eagles went into Bushnell University against a tough Beacons' team, hoping to keep up with a playoff spot. The first set started off in the Beacons' favor, but the Eagles were able to swing momentum to their side, thanks to Allie Flynn's serving with a 7-point streak to go up 13-9. However, the Beacons were able to take points when push came to shove to take the set, 25-22.
The second set continued to favor the Beacons early on, going up 6-2, but the Eagles came right back and tied it, 6-6. The Eagles and Beacons took the set into overtime, with both teams trading 2-point stretches, but the Eagles were able to prevail in the end, going three unanswered to win the arduous set, 32-30.
The third set was one the Eagles struggled in the most. The Beacons jumped out early and never looked back. The Eagles never saw the lead in this set and couldn't keep up with the Beacons' relentless attacks. The Eagles fell in the third set, 25-15.
The fourth and final set started well for the Eagles, but the Beacons took control, going seven of eight to lead 11-5. The Beacons then dominated the rest of the set with several multi-point momentum swings to take the set, 25-16, and the whole game.
"We encountered a well-prepared Bushnell team tonight, and with the exception of the second set, struggled to connect on either offense or defense," said Head Coach Steven Bain. "The playoff situation is also weighing heavily on this group, and we will need to let that burden go if we expect to be competitive against a top- ten Corban team."
