Kirkland, WA - The Northwest women's basketball team pulled off a defensive show for an impressive win over Warner Pacific, 71-60.
The Knights came off a 17-point comeback to win against the Geoducks, while the Eagles had to develop a short-term memory after a humiliating loss to the Lions the night prior.
The Eagles licked their wounds and showed up sturdy and defensive, limiting the Knights to 31% of their shots and shutting out three of the four quarters beyond the three point line. The Eagles maintained a consistent shooting offense, going for 38.8% and 62% of their free throws. It was a complete turnaround that the Eagles desperately needed to go into the break.
Kimberly Carrada Sanchez unloaded with 23 points on the night, while Saydee Anderson and Keleah Medeiros both put up 14 points. Ellie De Waard managed to pick up a double-double, her fourth of the season, nabbing 10 points and 12 rebounds.
"It felt like our group really bounced back well from the day before and came ready to go," said Head Coach Randall Edens. "We've really done a nice job of that in terms of when we have had a really tough one the previous day to move on quickly. Considering that's the makeup of our league schedule, that will be important to do.
"Kim really got us going there in the first quarter, and we had great balance on the night. The difference in the game came in the fourth quarter where we really executed well down the stretch and defensively locked in and closed out possessions with rebounds. That's important to do in a close game."
