Eagles Suffer 50-Point Defeat Against Warriors

Kirkland, WA - The Northwest women's team suffers a 50-point defeat against an undefeated Lewis-Clark State side, 97-47.

The Eagles started the weekend home stand against a Warriors team that went 6-0 to start, and it was a struggle for the Eagles at the jump. The Eagles' struggles came off of sloppy passes and miscommunication, and the Warriors took advantage of those issues all game long. The Warriors made their presence known all over the court, shooting 9-18, half of their three-pointers, and 3-4 on free throws.

The Warriors grabbed the wheel and were in the driver's seat the entire second quarter. Shooting 11-19 and 2-6 in three pointers, the Warriors outclassed the Eagles in every aspect. The Eagles could only put up 3-14 and 1-6 in the second quarter.

By the third quarter, the game was out of reach for the home side. The Eagles continued to drop passes and couldn't resolve those woes against LC State. The Warriors limited the Eagles to eight points and continued to dominate on offense, scoring 11-20 and again nailing 3-4 of their free throws. The Eagles only mustered 3-12 on shots and 2-7 on three-pointers.

The fourth quarter slowed down, but the book was already written. The Warriors finished the game scoring 40-74, 8-23 in threes, and 9-13 on the free throw line, and getting 21 steals. The Eagles limped to the finish line scoring 16-54, 3-20 in three-pointers, and 12-23 from the free throw line.

Kimberly Carrada Sanchez led the team in points with 13, while Ellie De Waard followed with 10 points.

"The tough start was the biggest challenge to get over when we are limited as a group compared to a traditionally strong program such as LC State," said Head Coach Randall Edens. "After we got our footing later in the first half, that 12-0 deficit all the sudden—if that doesn't exist—we're at neutral or within single digits, and that changes the context of the game. So when they went on their quick run to start the second half, the game was over . . . instead of down 15, we were down 25, and that's going to be too big a hurdle to get over with a program like LC State."
