Eagles Stand Proud Against Zags

SPOKANE, Wash. - Northwest University traveled to the east side of the state for a big-time exhibition against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. In front of 6,000 fans, the Eagles competed against one of the biggest names in college basketball and stood tall to the challenge.

As the Zags got out to a quick lead, the Eagles fought to keep within close range for the first part of the first half. While Gonzaga kept pushing and extending their lead, Northwest continued to fight for each point and make the Zags work hard for each point they got. The Eagles found themselves down by 22 going into the second half which pushed them to keep competing at a high level.

Both teams traded points to start the second half as the Eagles continued to put pressure on Gonzaga. Gonzaga slowly started to lengthen their lead on Northwest as the teams got deep into the second half. As the Eagles continued to show their heart and ability to compete, Gonzaga continued to prove their name as a top basketball team in the nation. Gonzaga took the exhibition, 111-62.

"I could not have been more proud to be an NU Eagle today," said Head Coach Rick Skeen. "Our guys played extremely hard and di everything we asked of them. They stuck together through adversity and showed their character and resiliience in a really fun atmosphere against a very good team. It will be a memory we will all share together for a long long time."

Northwest will head to Idaho State this Saturday for another exhibition.
